In 2001, Congress passed the Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program Act (EEOICPA), to provide compensation and medical benefits to current and former U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) employees and contract employees who developed certain illnesses due to their occupational exposure to radioactive and toxic substances during their DOE employment
Current and former DOE employees and contract employees, spouses, children, and grandchildren
Tax-free award of up to $400,000
Medical benefits for covered illnesses under the EEOICPA include reasonable and customary medical care, physician prescribed medications, and travel directly associated with the treatment of a covered illness, including:
Doctor's office visits, medical treatments, and consultations
Durable medical equipment
Travel to the doctor, hospital, clinic, or other medical facility
Inpatient and outpatient hospital charges, including visits to the emergency room
Drugs prescribed by a physician, both brand-name and generic
Ambulance services
Diagnostic laboratory and radiological testing
Home and residential health care
We help employees file new claims, which includes obtaining employment verification, medical records, and evidence linking medical conditions to occupational exposure, and filing all paperwork with the Division of Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation (DEEOIC)
Most of the employees we represent have been previously denied. First, we read through the full claim history to determine why the claim was denied, then we develop the plan to appeal a previously denied claim or file a new claim
There is no fee unless you are awarded. The maximum allowable fee a representative may charge is 2% for the filing of an initial claim and 10% to appeal a claim recommended for denial by the DEEOIC
Whether you are a new claimant or have been previously denied, Karen Swinford takes a deep interest in you, your medical condition, and how to get you the benefits you deserve

I had filed previously and been denied for my basal cell carcinoma, but that didn't concern Karen. She jumped right in, dug through my file history, appealed my prior claim, and filed a new claim for new BCCs. I was so frustrated with the program, but Karen got it done!
Karen is extremely good at her job. My father was previously denied, but Karen got my father full compensation and home care. My father and our family are so appreciative of Karen's hard work and results. We definitely recommend Karen to anyone seeking benefits under the EEOICPA.
I have been trying for years to get approved for my breathing conditions. I was determined to do it on my own, but kept hitting brick walls. I'm so glad I decided to work with Karen. She took all of the stress away and handled everything for me.
